Little Women By Louisa May Alcott

With the new adaption of Little Women movie coming this Christmas, I was feeling nostalgic and decided that why not put some thought on it. That will also keep my mind from overloading with the thought about the new movie. I read Little women in college as I was intruded to Louisa May Alcott quite recently. I relish children fiction considerably, so it was not something unexpected that I totally dig this novel.51pxvMKVhpL._SX340_BO1,204,203,200_

The story revolves around March sisters. The author to be and tomboy Jo March, beautiful and graceful Meg March, spoiled little Amy March and their fragile Beth March. The story shows us their devotion to each other and their struggle to survive the Civil War in New England. Throughout the book, I keep on finding the love these sisters share for each other and how far they can go protect; their sisters. They do not have riches but they still know how to share with what little they have. It was expected during the civil war, people did struggle to keep on having even a neutral necessity. I admire their passion and earnestness toward their dreams, to have the courage to go through everything to achieve it, it was impressive.

The new movie is releasing on this Christmas. I am looking forward to re-read the book before watching the movie. The movie cast does seem promising with awards winning casts and some of them are my favourites, so it is likely for me to be a little enthusiastic about the movie. Here is the trailer of the new adaptation.

Enjoy your new read, Sim Continue reading “Little Women By Louisa May Alcott”

Books to read during this witching month

The time of the year is here when the power of us witches and wizards are at the peak point. Yes, I am talking about Halloween. For me be it Halloween, Christmas, or New Year holiday, there are some books which I like to revisit again to quench my thirst. It is not like that I do not touch new magical books, I do. But some are so enchanting that I would like to ensnare myself again in those books.

So here is my humble witching list-

HARRY POTTER SERIES– This series will always come in my mind whenever I am in the mood of magic books. Even in the series, there are some books which are my favourites, and I would like to revisit it from time to time. Be it Harry’s sass or Hermoine’s wit or Ronald’s spacy mind, I grew up with this brilliant young witch and wizards. So it would not be wrong for me to say that yes it is very close to me.largehp

THE LORD OF THE RINGS- I was introduced to this series a little later. My sister gave me the first one The fellowship of the Ring, and after finishing it I was awestruck. Yes awestruck as speechless, the world J.R.R Tolkien has created was so enormously enchanting that I thought spending my life in Rivendell would not be a bad idea. Now I am a proud holder of the box set of this series and I did not regret a single penny for set.jpg

THRONE OF GLASS- Well the young assassin has a special space in my close nit heart. The story is beautifully interlinked, and the characters will keep you inquisitive with their temperament. But Celaena shines out the most throughout the series. Her actions, her decisions, and her character development will make you proud of her as it did me.Throne-of-Glass-1-900x316

A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES- It is a story about a witch who did not know that she is a witch. Diana Bishop is a young scholar at Oxford. Diana unwittingly calls upon an ancient manuscript in the course of her research. Later in the story, she found out that she is descended from a distinguished line of witches. She did not want anything to do with this world, so she left the book with the hope of never seeing it again. But as the book was an ancient magical artefact it started a course of action which leads Diana in the world of daemons, witches, and vampires.

THE BARGAINER SERIES- Hmm what to say about this, well if you need a favour, all you need to do is go to the Bargainer. But there is a little issue with this; the bargainer will make all your wishes come true. With a price, yes the bargainer will always hear your wishes but your wishes come with a price. And here comes our siren, I mean heroine who is a siren. Callypso Lillis has a problem, a big problem. From the past seven years, she has collected a bracelet of black beads up her wrist, for favours she has received from the bargainer. Well, our bargainer is not just any random guy, he is a Fae King and he has an interesting way of collecting the favours back from our cherub siren.rhapsodic

There will be more in this list but I would talk about them later, as we witches are way too greedy for our witching list. And may our witching list keep going on.

Blessed be, Sim

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J Maas

Books have been a gateway for me as long as I can remember. From there comes my love for the fantasy genre. I have always been curious about otherworld stories since I was a child. Maybe you can say it was because of the stories we used to hear from grandmothers. I was in fifth grade when my brother bought me a souvenir from his school trip. It was a book. It was a collection of fairy tales. At first, I was sceptical about reading it because before that I was more into Marvel comics. Iron man is my favourite Marvel superhero. But after some encouragement from my brother I decided to give it a try. It was not what I expected but I finished it. Later I gave a call to my elder sister, who at that time used to live in a dormitory at her college. While talking to her, I informed her about the book and I said it was something unexpected. I was not used to the damsel in distress kind of heroine. So after some of the talk, she said she will send me something new to read. And that’s how I got my first book of the fantasy genre, and I was hooked. After that, I got more books. You must be thinking where I am going on with this. I was just talking about how I came to love the fantasy genre.TAB_cover_main

The Assassin Blade is the prequel of Throne of Glass series, I literally stumble upon this series. I was scrolling through my news feed and there it was the beautiful cover of the ‘ Throne of Glass’. I did some more browsing, for the reading order. And then I was adding The Assassin Blade in my amazon cart. The Assassin Blade is a collection of five novellas. It tells us about Celaena Sardothian. Celaena is Adarlans most deadly assassin. She is feared by the people. Being a part of an Assassin Guild, she has some rules to follow, but as she trusts no one, the rules do not matter. In this novella, Celaena goes on five missions. The missions take her from godforsaken islands to malevolent desserts. She fights to free slaves against her master’s orders. What will be her punishment? As every action has a price.Throne-of-Glass-1-900x316

Celaena will make you fall in love with her. The wit, the sass and how her cheeky little mind works. Overall Throne of Glass series is very close to my heart, and The Assassin Blade is just the tip of an iceberg. The ending was so maddening that I jumped right into Throne of Glass after finishing The Assassin Blade. So yeah it was an enthralling read for me and I adore it. More of the series review will be coming up soon. You can check more of Sarah J Maas work at her sites As for now enjoy your new read.

We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal

People lived because she killed.D0h48y7WsAAyTER

People died because he lived.

Hafsah Faizal debut novel just has blown me away, the first two lines of the story and I was sold. We hunt the flame is the first novel by Hafsah Faizal and she wins the heart of every fantasy genre lover. People who loved Sarah J Maas and Roshani Choski will definitely. Zafira was brave, strong and every bit of enlightening as any strong protagonist come.

The story is inspired by ancient Arabia. Zafira is the Hunter who disguises herself as a man to hunt in Arz to feed her people, while Nasir is Prince of Death, assassinating people who defy his father, the King. Both are feared as they are awed.

The story will keep you curious about what is going to happen next, throughout the story you will see how Zafira struggle to keep her morale and belief which are thought to her by her father. The story and intriguing characters will keep you entertain, you will laugh with them cry with them. The author has written the emotion very well you will feel with the character. You will experience the Arawiya and will be transported in ancient Arabia and will be awed with its beauty.

There were many interesting factors going on in the story which kept me hooked, the dynamics between Zafira and the Prince in itself was beautifully described. I personally really like Zafira, I admired her because throughout the book you will keep seeing her struggle, strength and how she triumphs over her situation and come back a little stronger and sharper than before. If you have read We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal you know what I’m talking about, if not please do check out this gem.
